Saturday, November 2, 2024, marked a pivotal moment in the history of the Network of Adamawa Non-Governmental Organisations (NANGO) as the network held its official elections for the Executive Committee.
His Excellency Rt Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has created an enabling environment for the National NGOs in Adamawa to thrive. Representatives from the Adamawa State Government were present to observe the elections, including Honorable Asmau Durnin, the Special Adviser on CSO/NGO Coordination, and Mr. Kpeshi Takoba, who represented Dr. Mary Paninga, the Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Planning Commission. These observers emphasized the importance of impartial oversight and demonstrated a commitment to upholding democratic standards within the governance of the network.
The state government representatives added a layer of credibility and alignment with regulatory frameworks, ensuring that the election adhered to civil society protocols and fostered trust within the NGO community. Additionally, the Chairperson of NANGO’s Board of Trustees Mrs Aishatu Margima provided guidance and represented the foundational principles of the Network, emphasizing continuity and ethical governance. Together, these observers played a crucial role in partnering with the Election Committee (ELCOM) to affirm the credibility of the electoral process, ensuring that it was conducted freely, fairly, and in alignment with NANGO’s mission and the interests of its diverse members.
For the position of Chairman, Mr. Peter Egwudah won with 55 votes, defeating Amos Yusuf, who received 6 votes.
In the vice-chairman position, Aishatu Yakubu won with 55 votes, defeating Gloria Fredrick, who received 5 votes. One vote was declared invalid.
For Secretary, Ibrahim Bello won with 50 votes, defeating Adamu Saidu, who received 11 votes.
The following positions were filled through voice voting, as the candidates were unopposed:
- PRO: Solomon Tashara
- Treasurer: Aisha Eyibo
- Assistant Secretary: Mathew David
- Financial Secretary: Pwamaddino Mbidomti
- Organizing Secretary: Aminu Mallum
