ADAS Programme Organizes One Day Stakeholder Workshop On Climate SMART Agriculture.

The Adamawa State Agribusiness Support Programme (ADAS-P) in Collaboration with Modibbo Adama University (MAU) Yola has organized a one Day stakeholder workshop on Climate Smart Agriculture with a theme “Climate Smart Agriculture: An antidote to food production uncertainties in Adamawa State held at the school of Post graduate MAU Yola.

In his remarks, the special guest of honour Hon. Muhammad Sadiq (Walin Ganye) who doubles as the Hon. Commissioner Min. For Environment & Natural Resources Development Adamawa State restated the state government’s commitment to create better policies and programmes that will help to build resilience to climate change and reduce green gas emissions.

While delivering a keynote address, the Vice Chancellor Modibbo Adama University Yola Prof. Abdullahi Liman Tukur who was represented by Prof. Daniel Dangula challenged all to put heads together to find a lasting solution to the whether and climate change among other obstacles bedeviling the agric sector.

In a paper presentation, Prof. Bashir Abubakar Bashir of Geography Dept. MAU Yola, described deforestation, shortage of rainfall, high temperature among others as climatic challenges. According to him adopting & building resilience to climate change and reducing green gas emissions are key to overcoming the problem.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief Operating Officer of ADAS Programme Mal. Yunusa Ibrahim Gafai said ADAS Programme is working round the clock to facilitate the establishment of committee to checkmate climate issues in the state.

Gafai explained that part of their mandate is to facilitate commercialization of agriculture, inter coordinate and create standard Database among others.

Five syndicate groups made presentation after the technical session.

Organisations that Participates includes Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Centre For Women & Adolescent Empowerment, Lining Ministries, NAGGW, MAU, DDI, GGW, NELDA, NASC, NIMET, IITA, NSCE, MACDEN, FMA, NSE, MCRP, ADADP, among others.
