For those who care to know, a few days ago merchants from neighbouring Cameroon had a field day buying up available grains and making almost two hundred per cent profit in less than six hours across the border. The poor state of affairs was further exacerbated by merchants from far away who got the ranking of “highest rice producers”, while all along the there created Adamawa rice. The same rice is polished and sent back here as ” foreign rice”. According to the principal special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Communications George Kushi said
Now the situation appears to be rapidly changing as rising prices have been stemmed and are now crashing down.
This goes a long way to prove that good policies enforced at the right time can have an adverse effect on the lives of ordinary citizens. The price of maize(corn) , a staple in the state is becoming more affordable to the joy of Adamawa people. From over fifty thousand Naira, it is now below that amount.
The initiation of good policies is of great import. Not long ago His Excellency, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri embarked on war against tree- felling to check deforestation and the steady degradation of the flora and fauna within his jurisdiction. This move is laudable as it will in the long run be beneficial to farmers and grazers. Without an iota of doubt, the whole nation and the world stand to benefit from such.
Another important thing that needs clarification is the issue of a levy on the cattle continuously carted away to markets in the South. It is a known fact that for as low as three hundred Naira per head, they are carted away from Adamawa, only to pay a levy of ten thousand to the government of another state. Is it not logical that the state in which the animals were grazed deserve more than a paltry three hundred?
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiru is on the right course setting things on the the desired path that will generate revenue for the state. Adamawa should benefit from any wealth created in it.
This government is looking into the future and is doing what others failed to do. If you take look at of some of our northern neighbors you have no doubt that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri is preemtimg the dissster that has wiped out whole forests, turning them to barren lands and creating probably irreversible ecological problems.
