During a visit to the Governor’s office, the NLC Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, praised Governor Fintiri for fulfilling his promise and reassured the Governor of workers’ commitment to their duties.

Comrade Fashe described Governor Fintiri as a “people’s Governor” and a true friend of the labour union. He highlighted that the Governor’s actions have exceeded workers’ expectations, causing widespread joy among them. In appreciation, Fashe pledged that workers would dedicate themselves to their jobs, helping to achieve the Governor’s vision for Adamawa.

In response, Governor Fintiri shared that when he invited the labour leaders to discuss the N70,000 minimum wage, they quickly reached an agreement in just 30 minutes due to the strong relationship between the government and the union. The Governor expressed happiness that the decision has pleased the workers and emphasized that there was no need for any struggle or protest, given the good relations with the labour union.

Governor Fintiri also mentioned that he sees no reason to delay paying the new wage, which is now a law. However, he urged the federal government to rethink its policies, as the N70,000 minimum wage is still insufficient given current economic conditions.

He further disclosed that the government is working to extend the new wage to judiciary staff, the accountant general’s office, state assembly workers, and others by September. The Governor also encouraged citizens to focus on farming and assured them of the government’s commitment to long-term, impactful policies rather than short-term palliatives.

Lastly, he thanked the labour union for their cooperation, which has allowed the government to succeed, and assured them of continued support from the government.
