By Calvin Anadio Lawan.

Since January 2021, I have written passionately about the need for Adamawa State to increase its revenue and become more fiscally viable.

Like many others, I believed our state had the potential to achieve great things if we harnessed our resources effectively and improved our tax collection system.

Today, I am proud to see that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has listened and taken bold steps in this direction.

Adamawa is now ranked among the top ten states in Nigeria contributing to the nation’s Value Added Tax (VAT). With a contribution of ₦42.01 billion in 2024, our state has joined the big league, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with economic powerhouses like Lagos, Rivers, and Kano.

This achievement is no small feat, and it shows that something remarkable is happening in Adamawa.

This milestone speaks volumes about Governor Fintiri’s leadership and his administration’s efforts to strengthen our internally generated revenue (IGR).

It’s clear that policies and reforms have been put in place to ensure that businesses operate more effectively and that taxes are collected more efficiently. This is a big win for Adamawa, as it positions us as a serious player in Nigeria’s economic space.

While this success deserves applause, it is also a call to action.

There is so much more that Adamawa can achieve, especially in agriculture and tourism.
These are sectors where we have a clear comparative advantage.

With fertile land and hardworking farmers, Adamawa can become a major food basket for the nation and even export agricultural produce to neighboring countries.

Similarly, our beautiful landscapes, cultural festivals, and historical sites can attract tourists and boost our economy if properly developed.

Governor Fintiri has laid a solid foundation with this VAT achievement, but now is the time to sustain the momentum and expand our focus.

The people of Adamawa are ready to support efforts that will create more jobs, reduce poverty, and make life better for everyone.

Once again, I say kudos to Governor Fintiri for this outstanding progress. We look forward to seeing even greater achievements as Adamawa continues to rise.

I am a strong believer that we can make our state a shining example of development and prosperity in Nigeria.
