The “Hopeful Women Initiative” in collaboration with “UN Women” Funded by “Women’s Peace & Humanitarian Fund” has organized a workshop for both MDA’s and Community Stakeholders On Women Participation In Decision Making Process in Adamawa and Taraba states.
The workshop titled: Promoting Recovery and Women/Girls Involvement in Peace building in Adamawa State was held at Modibbo Adama University Guest House Yola.
In her opening remarks, the Executive Director Hopeful Women Initiative Evang. Dr. Elizabeth Dilibe appealed for stakeholders to to give women a chance in decision making and peace building in the society.
In her presentation, one of the programme facilitator Mrs. Maryam Noel, described women as better managers and account hence the need to include them in decision making process in all aspects of life for the betterment of all.
She explained that women are facing challenges of exclusion in decision making, Limited Economic opportunities and representations among others and called on women to wake up to their expectations and overcome the obstacles bedeviling them.
Also speaking, another facilitator Mrs Hauwa Kumshe said statistics shoes that women are under represented in executive and political offices.
She added that women have less than 8% in the Nigeria National Assembly is far below expectation.
In a remark, the D.P.O Girei Division Mal. Abubakar Usman Bapeto, expressed the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force in protecting women’s rights and gender based violence.
The D.P.O who challenged the participants to do justice to the topic elaborating and giving a clear advocate, said “We will also support women in ensuring they exercise their franchise at all time.
The programme drawn participants from civil society organizations, traditional council, security agents among others.
