Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf on Saturday flagged off the second batch of women empowerment initiatives with the disbursement of N260 million to beneficiaries.
5,200 women selected across the 44 local government areas of the state got N50,000 each in the monthly empowerment targeted at enhancing micro and small scale economy in the state.
A statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Governor’s spokesperson said 100 women each from 36 local government areas outside the metropolis and 200 women each within the eight metropolitan local government areas are being selected monthly to benefit from the empowerment.
Addressing the beneficiaries at the government house before the disbursement, Governor Yusuf said the initiative was to ensure women are self-reliant and independent-minded, through financial support for trade and skill acquisition.
The Governor explained his conviction on empowering women folks to regenerative investment that will apart from increasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the stats also positively improve the rural economy, boost business activities and create a sense of pride for the beneficiaries.
He expressed optimism that with the financial support, the beneficiaries would redouble their small-scale businesses and subsequently pave the way for economic prosperity while breaking the circle of poverty.
Gov. Yusuf maintained that his administration will continue to cherish the sacrifice made by women in the state in bringing about his government through intensified commitment to the transformation of lives of women in Kano state.
The press statement added that the Governor used the opportunity to call upon people of the state especially women as the rainy season begins to be mindful of the cleanliness of their environment to avoid diseases and maintain personal hygiene for healthy living.
