Gov Fintiri Throws Weight Behind Local Govt’ Autonomy

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has thrown his weight behind the agitation for local government autonomy if done transparently and constitutionally, calling however for the separation of powers between the office of the accountant general of the federation and the federal government.

The Governor made his stand known while declaring open the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Program (MCPDP) of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) with the theme “Sustainable Accounting and Economic,Social and Governance Reporting” in the Banquet Hall Government House Yola.

The Governor thanked ANAN for finding the state worthy of hosting its annual meeting for the second time in his 5 years in office assuring of the present administration’s commitment to continue to transform the state into safe haven that investors will be proud to do business in.

Since the last time the association was in the state for its program,Governor Fintiri said a lot has changed in the areas of capital and human development and also in physical transparency and management within the accounting system in the state.

He made bold to state that Adamawa is the best in the north within accountancy corridors due to the advice and doggedness of its accountants pledging to continue to support and work with them towards making sure there’s practically no corruption in the system.

Fintiri called on pressure groups to advocate for the separation of office of the accountant general of the federation and the federal government stating that only 50% of the FAAC is shared while the federal government collects 50%

Earlier ANAN President Dr James Ekarare Neminebor said the people of Adamawa are counted lucky to have AUF as it’s Governor considering what he tagged signs of wonder he saw coming into the state after his visit to the state in 2019.

He described the Governor as a Prudent financial manager who channels resources of the state towards the development of the state and its people.

The Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Program according to the President becomes necessary because of the dynamism of the profession and also to make sure accountants compliment government’s result oriented administration.

Dr James said the association’s door is always open in the case of disappointment or unprofessionalism by the accountants in the state as it has a disciplinary committee to check mate it’s members.

He expressed the appreciation of the association to the Governor and especially on behalf of its state branch for the untiring support towards its sustenance.

The CEO Dr Kayode Olushola,Acting Chairman MCPD Dr Sunday Adewale and The Branch Chairman Dr Titus Obadiah all lauded the Fintiri led administration for changing the face of the state which earned him an honorable membership of the association.
