Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has flagged off the distribution of shelter kits to 1,896 households worst affected by the 2024 floods across five local government areas.
Speaking at the flag-off event in Imburu, Numan Local Government Area, the governor announced that each household would receive ₦250,000 to rebuild homes devastated by last year’s flood.
Governor Fintiri noted that Numan served as the distribution point for the five most affected local government areas, including Madagali, Michika, Demsa, and Lamurde.
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to changing past practices, where victims were summoned to the Government House to receive meager interventions.
Under his leadership, the governor stated, flood victims would act as contractors for their own reconstruction projects, ensuring a more direct and effective resettlement process.
He urged beneficiaries to expedite the rebuilding process and relocate to safer areas, warning of the potential for another flood as the rainy season approaches.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration, and Humanitarian Services, Alhaji Bello Hamman-Diram, explained that beneficiaries were identified through a biometric process in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of Numan Local Government, Mr. Innocent Koto, thanked Governor Fintiri for choosing Numan as the flag-off location for the distribution.
He pledged the continued support and loyalty of the people of Numan to the governor’s administration.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the governor for addressing their plight and promised to use the assistance for its intended purpose.
