
The Organising Committee of the 2025 Fresh Air Governors Cup, chaired by the Adamawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Wali Yakubu, has successfully conducted the match draw for the upcoming championship.
The tournament, scheduled to begin on 16th February 2026, will feature teams from all 21 local government areas of Adamawa State. This marks the first time in a decade that the prestigious Governors Cup will be held in Yola, reflecting Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s commitment to revitalizing sports in the state.
The seven-day championship is sponsored by the Adamawa State ALGON (Association of Local Governments of Nigeria) Chairman, Suleiman Gangkuba, and organized by the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
In his opening remarks, Barrister Wali Yakubu expressed gratitude to Governor Fintiri for prioritizing sports development as part of his transformative agenda. “This tournament is a significant step in restoring the lost glory of sporting activities in Adamawa State. We are proud to be part of this initiative,” he said.
Suleiman Gangkuba also encouraged stakeholders to support the administration in ensuring the success of the tournament. He commended Governor Fintiri for his achievements in sports development, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in nurturing young talent across the state.
The tournament will kick off with an opening match between Yola North and Guyuk Local Government at the FCE Football Pitch, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting and unifying event for the state.
Sports enthusiasts and supporters are encouraged to participate and cheer for their local teams as Adamawa celebrates this long-awaited return of the Governors Cup.
