Lalong said, “The Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as a former speaker is a member of the group and the group would look into his performance as a governor and the conference is not shy from telling its members who have not done well to do better and those who are doing well will be commended.

“The conference would go round the state and take a critical look at the work of the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and make recommendations for progress and make criticism where necessary.”

According to Lalong, the Conference of Former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly of Nigeria has since its emergence in 1999, continued to have a strong say in the affairs that affects Nigerians and that it will respond to the question of the matter of the creation of state police by the end of its conference in Adamawa State.

He said the group is a strong voice within the nations polity as some of its members are now senators, members of the house of representatives and some are governors, so they have the authority to speak on things within the country.

Lalong said as former speakers of their respective State House of Assemblies, they have the experience and the relevant background to contribute positively to the progress of the country.

“As a former speaker of your state house of Assembly, you would have listen to the problems of your state for the duration you were in office, so, we stand in a very good position to inform and contribute to affairs of state,” he stresses.

Responding to the question on the matter of state police as proposed by the federal government and state government, he declined to respond by saying “some of the questions will be responded to at the close of the group’s visit to Adamawa state.”
