The Adamawa State Government, through the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, has officially Flagg-Off the distribution of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) certificates to deserving students. The distribution was carried out on June 17, 2025, at the ADSUBEB Hall, with 21 initiating principals receiving the certificates on behalf of their schools.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Service of the State, Arc. Isa Ardo, stated that the issuance of these certificates sets a new standard for the education sector in the state. He emphasized that only approved and authorized institutions are now permitted to print certificates, a move designed to curb the use of fake credentials within the educational system.

“It is a pleasure for me to serve in this administration,” he told newsmen. “All BECE certificates are now centrally produced by one organization, with standardized features and appearance. This will significantly reduce counterfeiting and piracy.”

Arc. Ardo commended the Governor of Adamawa State for prioritizing education and raising its standard. He also urged the initiating principals to take their roles seriously, noting that this is the first time such standardized certificates are being issued in the state.

The Executive Director of the Education Resource Center, Mr. Kaita Yohana, in his address, explained the importance of the BECE as the final evaluation point for students who have completed nine years of basic education. He emphasized that only candidates who successfully passed the examination were awarded certificates.

“BECE is a critical tool for assessing, ranking, and differentiating students, and for making key future decisions regarding their education. This event is a milestone in the history of education in Adamawa State,” Mr. Yohana said.

Mr. Mohammad A. Hamman, Director of Schools Services, represented the Acting Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Birsan Penuel, at the event.

The ceremony was well-attended by key stakeholders in the education sector, including:

Arc. Ardo, Head of Service, Representative of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development
Mr. Kaita Yohana, Executive Director, Education Resource Center
Executive Secretary, Post Primary Schools Management Board
Executive Secretary, Mass Education Board, Executive Director, State Library Board, Representative of the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB).

The flag-off event marks a significant step toward improving the credibility and integrity of educational certification in Adamawa State.
