Work On Remodeling Of Burnt Yola Market Expected To Begin Next Month – SSG

The Adamawa State Government says following the briefing by the Technical Committee formed by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on the Yola Market inferno, the reconstruction of the Market is expected to begin next month.

The Secretary to the State Government, Awwal D Tukur, made the pronouncement at a press briefing in his office on Tuesday in Yola.

Tukur said the Committee completed the design for the upgrade,and the cost estimate should be available in a week, hence, the purpose of briefing the media in order to keep the public on track with the development.

The SSG expressed optimism that Governor Umaru Fintiri will not rest until the fire issue in Yola Market is addressed.

According to him,the new design provides for adequate shops, security outpost, clinic, fireservice outpost, and spacious pathways for the comfort of business activities for the public.

These are expected to tackle flammable scenarios in the future where lack of space and fire retardant are identified as factors contributing to fire outbreak reoccurrence in the market.

He also noted that effort is on the way for the provision of adequate water supply in the market through the Ministry of Water resources.

Tukur who said, any upheaval is inconvenient, thus, appeals for the patience and understanding of the public.

It could be recalled that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has mandated two committees to assess the damage caused and present remodel plan for the reconstitution of the Yola Market, the former is headed by the Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation,Reintegration and Human Services, Barr. Bello Hamman Diram and the latter by the Commissioner of Commerce,Trade and Industry Hon. Ishaya John Dabari.

The state government is expected to change the narrative of the ugly incident through creating a market that will serve as an economic reservoir to the state economy and sustainable means of providing profits to the market inhabitants.
