The government of Kano State through its Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS) is understudying the land adminstration reforms initiated in Gombe State under the Gombe State Geographic Information System (GOGIS) with a view to beterring its land allocation, administration and improving internal revenues.

KANGIS Director-General, Dr Dalhatu Aliyu Sani led his management staff on a study tour of Gombe State Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS) office to learn on the operations of the organisation and gain insights into the successful implementation of its digital land administration reforms in Gombe state.

He hailed Gombe State for ‘its innovative approach to land administration, and its significant reforms to digitise its land management processes, making the state more efficient, transparent, and accessible to the public’.

According to him, land digitisation started in 2012 in Kano State but lamented that it stopped due to lack of political will on the side of the previous administration.

“The system suffered neglect as they were not ready for it thinking that it is not important, whereas it is important because digital land administration can improve state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

“We are here today, because there is a political will from the Governor of Kano, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, who said ‘go to the best places like Gombe, Lagos, Kaduna etc to ensure that Kano State competes with the global standards.” The DG said.

Responding, the Director General of Gombe State Geographic Information System (GOGIS), Dr Kabiru Usman Hassan, represented by the overseeing director, planning, Aminu Abdullahi who received the team from Kano State said the office applied state-of-the-art geographic information systems, technology, including advanced mapping tools and uses a geospatial databases for efficiency and accuracy in land administration.
