GOMBI — Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has formally presented the Kumu I of Gombi Chiefdom, His Royal Majesty Aggrey Bechour Ali, with a Third Class Staff of Office, urging him to prioritize peace and security in the chiefdom.

Speaking at the historic coronation ceremony in Gombi town, Governor Fintiri described the event as a testament to resilience and hope for a brighter future.

He emphasized the rich cultural heritage of the ethnic groups within Gombi Chiefdom, including the Ga’anda, Lala, Bura, Hona, Mofa, and Fulani communities.

“This chiefdom exemplifies the Adamawa spirit — that we can achieve great things when united beyond tribal and religious sentiments,” Fintiri said.

The governor highlighted his administration’s development initiatives, such as road construction, healthcare, education, and youth empowerment, aimed at improving the people’s living standards.

He reiterated the government’s ban on tree-cutting for charcoal production and illegal mining, urging traditional rulers and security agencies to enforce compliance.

Fintiri called on all sons and daughters of Gombi, from Tawa to Garkida and Balhona to Fotta, to support the new Kumu and promote harmony, progress, and development in the chiefdom.
In a goodwill message, the Lamido of Adamawa, represented by Galadima Adamawa Alhaji Mustafa Aminu, congratulated the new chief and praised Governor Fintiri’s developmental strides.
In his acceptance speech, His Royal Majesty Aggrey Bechour Ali expressed gratitude for the sacred trust bestowed upon him, pledging to promote peace, empower youths and women, and uphold the welfare of his people.

“I will serve with honesty and transparency, always prioritizing the welfare of my people,” the Kumu assured.

The chairman of the organizing committee, Professor David Jatau, described the event as historic, being the first time Gombi has had a chief, marking a new era for the chiefdom.
The ceremony concluded with commendations for Governor Fintiri’s leadership and calls for the new chief to uphold justice, equity, and inclusivity in his reign.
