Adamawa State Concern Amid Calls for protests:

Nigerian activists at home and abroad are rallying supporters to protest against what they describe as “bad governance” in Africa’s most populous Nation. However, these calls have raised concerns in Adamawa State, where significant progress has been made under Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Leadership.

Using social media and grassroots organizing, campaigners are pushing for demonstrations under slogans like “End bad governance in Nigeria,” “No retreat, no surrender,” and “Enough is enough” They encourage both online activism and street protests, emphasizing the role of Nigerians in the diaspora in applying pressure for change.

The movement stems from alleged longstanding concerns over corruption, economic struggles, security challenges, and perceived governance failures. Activists argue that years of mismanagement have hindered Nigeria’s development despite its resources.

However, in Adamawa State, local leaders and residents worry that these demonstrations could disrupt ongoing progress. Governor Fintiri’s administration has been credited with initiating transformative projects, improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

Concerns about the protests in Adamawa include:

  1. Disruption of ongoing development projects
  2. Negative economic impact that will deter investors
  3. Strain on local security resources
  4. Distraction from positive changes in the state
  5. Redirection of Government resources to manage protests
  6. Potential divisions in communities working towards common goals

The Governor Fintiri Administration is of the view that Adamawa’ experiences show positive change through focused leadership and community cooperation. They advocate for constructive dialogue over potentially disruptive protests.

As the situation develops, observers will be watching to see if this push for reform gains momentum and how it might impact Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in states like Adamawa where progress is tremendous. Many in Adamawa are calling for a thoughtful approach that preserves recent gains while addressing concerns through established democratic channels.

The response to these calls for protest and the government’s reaction remain to be seen, as Nigerianni authorities have issued an official statement rejecting the planned demonstrations.

Hon. James Iliya
Commissioner for Information and Strategy Adamawa State.
